WATER GATE BRIDGE NO. 3

DHI QAR PROVINCE IRAQ

Garraf Field development site is located onshore in the Southern province of Dhi Qar, approximately 250 km southeast of Baghdad. Garraf is within the Widyan-Mesopotamia Basin which covers an area of approximately 350 sq. km. Garraf field is located in the nearest town called Al-Refai which sits within the contract area.

The existing Garraf Bridge included a 4-span concrete slab bridge and a steel beam single-span lift bridge. There were no bridge records (as-built drawings, materials and tests, inspection history, etc.) given.  It was assumed that the bridge was built in 1964. The bridge was being load rated because of PCIHBV request to allow cross over vehicles to use the bridge.
